Faeries is a wonderful book: The author then goes an extended discussion of the use of the myths and legends and figures of faerie in the writings of serious authors ranging from Shakespeare most notably in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Doyle. And although I’ve read the Harry Potter series a number of times, and tend to notice which elements of myth and fairytale Rowling draws on, it wasn’t until reading Froud and Lee’s description of Brownies being insulted by the gift of clothes, that I made the connection between Brownies and House Elves furthermore I was a Brownie Guide when I was about seven!

I think I skimmed this book more than read it when my sister gave it to me when I was a kid, but the illustrations were terrific and I copied a lot of them in the afternoons after school when I first started to draw.
